How many times have you or your friends been forced to shell out some money on your mobile phone because it’s been dropped into a drink, fell out of your pocket or received a nasty knock that’s turned your screen into a piece of modern art? It’s a fairly common act, mobile phones in their very nature are getting smaller and lighter, and thus they are extremely delicate with their fragile glass and plastic cases making them worryingly easy to break.

In some situations you need a mobile phone but you’re going to need something that will take some abuse, such as going mountain climbing. If you’re clambering up rocks and your mobile phone falls out of your back pocket you can bet it isn’t long for this world. For situations like this you’ll need a tougher mobile phone, a more rugged telephone that can take the use and abuse and still let you call for help if you need it.

Some companies such as Nokia, Motorola and even JCB have made “tough phones” for this kind of market. These mobile phones are often made of more durable materials such as having outer layers composed of rubber or silicon so that any shocks they receive won’t cause as much damage.

These phones are normally waterproof to an extent, the various openings and ports are covered so that if the phone is splashed with water or you’re caught in a rain shower it will stay alive. In the past some previous models had been clunky large devices which really didn’t pass for mobile phones, but the growing market for these phones meant that they needed to shrink down and become more appealing to own.

The Siemens M65 is one such phone, from a distance this tough mobile phone looks like any other standard mobile, the rubber casing looks like any normal phone and is as small as one too. These phones don’t scrimp on features either, Nokia’s past efforts have nailed their market perfectly with their mobile phones; including a heart rate monitor and built in thermometer to suit the outdoorsy types.

These mobiles fulfill their purpose and then some with many of these types of handsets being offered in line with other cheap mobile phones and with their size and obtrusiveness dropping they are fast becoming appealing to everyone and not just the adventurers!
